Where to Get Your Clothes Tailored in Geneva: A Recommended Directory đŸ§”đŸȘĄ

Written by:

“Where can I find a tailor in Geneva” is one of the questions we get ALL the time, so much so that it gave birth to this post. We all need a good and trusty tailor that can help us look sharp in our clothes. No one wants to look like a frumpy country bumpkin.

The biggest hurdle most people will run into, like everything else in Switzerland, is the shock they get when they learn the high cost for tailoring services. It will most definitely be more expensive than whatever you are used to. It might even cost MORE than the item of whatever you want to tailor (welp). Welcome to Switzerland 😬 You can try to find options in nearby France, take your tailoring needs back home or even try DIY via YouTube videos, but sometimes you need professional help, locally, like right now.

We have put together a curated ‘directory’ based on trusted recommendations we received from our incredible network of women. Hopefully, this can be a good starting point for your journey to find your local tailor in the city.

So, how much does it cost?

Alright, let’s just get into the real deets. What can you expect to pay for tailoring services in Geneva?

Of course, the answer is always it depends. All prices are dependent on the complexity, fabric and clothing item. It’s always worth getting a direct quote for what you need in advance. But you can expect prices to look something like this:

  • Standard hemming pants: CHF 25 – 40
  • Waist adjustments: CHF 30 – 50
  • Sleeve shortening shirts and blouses: CHF 25 – 40
  • Tapering sides for shirts and blouses: CHF 30 – 60
  • Wedding / evening dress alterations: CHF 150+
  • Replacing zipper: CHF 30 – 40
  • Replacing a button: CHF 5 – 15 per button
  • Patching and mending: CHF 20 – 50 (depending on size, location, material)

  • Histoire Sans Chute | Rue de Zurich 40 | Cornavin
This place offers alteration services but they are also a textile recycling center! You can buy fabric scrapes, take one of their many workshops and classes on fixing and repairing clothes.

đŸ”„âžĄïž Hot tip #2: Many dry cleaners often offer alteration services at a slightly lower cost. If you already have a dry cleaner, it’s worth asking for their price list.

*Personal review: My go-to tailor is Yungdrung Delgermaa, which I have been recommending to all my friends. My tailoring needs have been simple – hemming pants, patching small holes in cardigans, and having dresses taken in. Their prices to me were very reasonable and the quality of work was always incredible. The cost to hem jeans cost as low as CHF 10! The ladies that work there are super kind and professional. Even when they are busy with their customers, they always take the time to understand what you need – love them so much! Don’t forget to take cash!

**I have also gotten alterations done on a wedding dress. FlĂšche Couture in Eaux-Vives came highly recommended by the owner of the wedding dress shop where I got my dress. Anytime you slap the word ‘wedding’ in front of anything, the price immediately doubles. My skirt (it was a 2 piece) was just too big, and the waist needed to be brought in. Was happy with the end product but I was SHOOK by the CHF 150 price tag. So in case anyone is getting something fancy tailored, be warned…

The older I get, the more I appreciate having a good tailor. Especially as a petite Asian, European clothes don’t fit quite right on me – the waist fits but the pant legs are dragging on my short legs or often the neckline of dresses become super low cut, revealing the lack of cleavage from my B cups. However, after a trip to the tailor, I get to put on my perfectly fitted dress, feeling like a million bucks!
