As a Taiwanese foodie, the first thing I needed to figure out upon arriving in Geneva was where to buy 10kg of short-grain Japanese rice. My Indonesian husband, meanwhile, was on the hunt for 10kg of jasmine rice! Since Coop and Migros only offered small 1kg bags, we knew those wouldn’t cut it.
We also desperately needed proper Chinese soy sauce, rice wine, sesame oil, quality instant noodles, and a host of other staples Swiss supermarkets simply don’t carry. When eating out becomes financially infeasible (which it quickly does here!), and all you crave is a taste of home, rolling up your sleeves and cooking is the only answer.
So, whether you’re an Asian expat looking for a taste of home, or you’re just looking to seriously step up your homemade Asian food game, this guide is for you. We’ve rounded up all our favorite Asian supermarkets—many recommended by our closest friends—for those moments when you’re feeling a little homesick.
🔥 Hot Tip: Always just double check the expiration date on the products before checking out.
Pan-Asian
We’ve grouped these places together because they carry staples and general ingredients spanning multiple East, South, and Southeast Asian cuisines (think bulk rice, coconut milk, curry pastes, frozen dumplings, and a wide array of fresh exotic vegetables). If you cook a mix of different Asian styles, start here!
Asian Spices | Rue de la Servette 49 (Servette)
This is one of the most popular Asian supermarket in Geneva, because of its central location and the rare fact that they’re open on Sunday 🥹. They hold products from everywhere Thai, Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese etc and have a wonderful section of fresh ‘exotic’ veggies, seafood, meats, and other delicious foods.
New Asian Spices | Rue Caroline 7 (Acacias)
Small but very well stocked is how most people describe New Asian Spices. There is a little bit of everything here as well, with a nice selection of fresh fruits and veggies.
Mekong Market | 30 Rue de Versoix (Ferney-Voltaire, France)
The name is Mekong but really, you can find most of what you need for most Asian cuisine – from Korean kimchi, Japanese miso to Indian spices. They have a great selection of fresh produce. It’s well situated just by the border of France and Switzerland, and accessible by public transportation (bus 60). If you do your grocery runs at the Carrefour, Leclerc or Grand Frais in Ferney-Voltaire, it’s a perfect additional stop as it is right next to all the big supermarkets. And yes, the prices in France are a bit friendlier from their Swiss counterparts, if you’re willing to make the trek.
Asia Shop | 86 Rue de Genève (Gaillard, France)
Also another highly recommended Asian supermarket that has an incredible variety of products from across the region. The owner is Thai, so there is a good selection of Thai products. It’s accessible via public transportation if you take tram 17 and also a short drive away from Geneva.
Ho Wan | 78 Rue de Genève (Gaillard, France)
A huge, comprehensive Asian market right in Gaillard, making it an easy drive from Geneva. Ho Wan is Chinese-owned but as a great selection across all regions. Their frozen food selection is especially impressive.
International Supermarché | 230 Rue de Genève (Gaillard, France)
Another great choice in Gaillard (in fact, Asia Shop, Ho Wan and International Supermarché are all on the same street) this market is celebrated for its wide product range that covers not just Asia, but also specific ingredients from other global regions. It’s a fantastic all-rounder for general bulk Asian goods but also other household things like pots and pans, cleaning supplies and more.
Mo & More Market | Pré de Fontaine (Thoiry, France)
A great option if you live in Meyrin or nearby areas. This large Asian supermarket in France stocks a wide variety of goods across many cuisines (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and more) and is consistently recommended for its excellent prices and huge selection of frozen items and dry goods.
Japanese / Korean
While Japanese and Korean cuisines are very different, OBVIOUSLY, we’ve grouped these stores because they often stock the best of both worlds in once place. You’ll often find a small selection of Korean products in Japanese-centric shops and vice-versa.
Uchitomi | Rue Ferrier 13 (Paquis) & Rue du Rhône 42 (Rive)
Uchitomi is like the golden child of Asian supermarkets in Geneva. The stores are very clean, organized, and well-run. If you’re looking for Japanese products specifically, there’s really no better place. It’s not just that they sell Japanese products, but they have a huge variety of choices – there is literally a wall of different Japanese soy sauces, dipping sauces, saki, sushi seaweed, etc. Their frozen food selections are equally impressive (meats for hot pots! dumplings!) and also stock some Korean basics, like kimchi and gochujang. Their shop in Paquis also has a small eatery attached to the shop where they serve plat du jour Japanese meals. With the high quality products comes an equally high premium 🥲, speaking from personal experience when I bought 5kg of premium Japanese rice without checking the price tag.

Uchino | Rue de Zurich 45 (Paquis)
Uchino is a smaller and more intimate Japanese supermarket in Paquis that is also perfectly stocked with what you need. They also sell bento boxes, sushi, onigiri, and other hot foods that are super delicious.
S-Mart | 10 Rue Germaine Tillion (Saint-Genis-Pouilly, France)
For Korean products, I have found that S-Mart is one of the best stocked places in the area. You can find a variety of kimchi (not just the napa cabbage kind), a variety of Korean sauces (Ssamjang, bulgogi marinade etc), soju selection, an incredible frozen food selection, and Korean snacks! They also sell some Japanese and Chinese products here as well. Coming here by car would be easiest, public transportation is possible but not the easiest.
Chinese
These stores are your lifeline for the often-niche, authentic, and bulk ingredients required for serious Chinese cooking (including Taiwanese staples!). Look here for the largest variety of specialized dried goods, frozen dim sum, regional soup bases, and the leafy green vegetables you miss from back home.
Wing Sheng Store | 366 Rue du 18 Août 1944 (Etrembières, France)
Wing Sheng is my personal go-to Chinese supermarket in the region, as they sell all the things that both a Taiwanese and Indonesian person needs. They are well stocked with even the super niche Chinese products that you are looking for. I’m talking dried shitake mushrooms, dried shrimp, chicken feet, pig blood, haidilao hot pot soup mix, dried goji berries, salty egg, dumpling skins, frozen dimsum – the list goes on. Their fresh produce section is especially impressive, it’s where I can buy all the green leafy veggies I miss from Taiwan, as well as more interesting selections like loofah and fresh lotus roots. It’s Chinese but they hold a lot of products from other Asian countries as well. The downside is that it’s hard to access by public transportation – it requires a 20 min walk from the Veyrier douane.

New Asie | 28 Av. Voltaire (Ferney-Voltaire, France)
Another well stocked Chinese supermarket in Ferney-Voltaire, that has most of everything you could want for Asian cooking. Their frozen produce section is especially impressive. Definitely worth making a stop if you’re in the area, as it is close to Grand Frais, Mekong, and the other big supermarkets in Ferney-Voltaire.
Vietnamese / Thai
Dedicated Southeast Asian shops are essential for their specific fresh produce, herbs, and sauces. You’ll find the best selection of fish sauce, specialized rice noodles, high-quality spring roll wrappers, and the fresh aromatics that make Thai and Vietnamese cuisine so incredible.
Thu Hang | Rue de Monthoux 52 (Paquis)
For Vietnamese, Thai, and general SE Asian products, Thu Hang in Paquis is a wonderful place to go. It’s small, slightly chaotic (like many asian supermarkets) but so well stocked. They are the go-to place for fresh veggie and fruit options. There is also a huge selection of frozen foods, noodles, and sauces. I’ve heard you can also order and request products that you need (haven’t tried myself).
Kim Duong Épicerie Asiatique | 17 Rue de la Paix (Ambilly, France)
While Kim Duong carries general Asian stock, it is particularly recommended for its excellent focus on Vietnamese and Thai ingredients. Located in Ambilly (near Annemasse), this is a go-to for essential fish sauces, fresh herbs (like Thai basil and cilantro), and a superior selection of noodles and rice wrappers needed for authentic Southeast Asian cooking.

Filippino
Filipino cuisine has its own unique, comforting flavors and ingredients. This category is for the markets specializing in specific Filipino pantry essentials, like unique vinegars and sauces, specialty snacks, ube treats, and frozen meat and seafood preparations like longganisa and bangus.
Mabuhay Store | Rue du Fort-Barreau 21 (Cornavin)
For Filipino specific products, look no further than Mabuhay. A huge selection of Filipino snacks, ube ice cream, frozen foods like white corn, longganisa, and bangus, Filipino personal care products as well as other Asian products as well.
South Asian
Big shoutout to my Indian friends for their supermarket recommendations! When cooking South Asian food, you need quantity and freshness—bulk bags of rice and lentils, specific regional spice blends, and reliable produce. These spots are consistently recommended for stocking your pantry with the best:
Madhura Marché Sàrl | Rue Liotard 56 (Servette)
A true Geneva staple for South Asian groceries. Madhura has been serving the community for years and is known for its wide selection of fresh vegetables, frozen specialties (like parathas and quality paneer), and, most importantly, all the regional spice blends and large bags of lentils you could ever need. This is a central, reliable spot for everything from everyday atta (wheat flour) to special occasion sweets.
Seelan Market | Rue du Bois-du-Lan 17 (Meyrin)
While slightly further out near Meyrin, Seelan is worth the trip if you live in the area or are doing a massive stock-up. They are famous for their excellent variety of Basmati and other regional rice types, a massive collection of Aachi brand masalas and spices, and a great selection of South Indian staples. They also run an online shop if you want to check their huge inventory (from lentils to curry pastes) before you make the journey.
Special Shout Outs
These aren’t strictly “Asian” but are indispensable for expats cooking diverse cuisine and buying specialty items in bulk quantities.
ALIGRO | Rue François-Dussaud 15 (Acacias)
This is the absolute best spot for bulk ingredients! You’ll find things like large bags of rice and flour, commercial-sized jars of sauces, and unique produce at wholesale prices. ALIGRO is also a great place if you want more selection for meats – we find most of the meat in Swiss supermarkets are very lean, which is not ideal for Chinese cooking. If you want a 5kg tin of coconut oil or industrial-sized packages of dried goods, ALIGRO is your new favorite spot.
Migros Outlet | Les Cygnes & Vernier Outlet
Migros Outlet is another place to visit if you’re looking to buy bulk ingredients! You can an assortment of products in bulk at a discounted price.
Grand Frais | Ferney-Voltaire & Saint Julien (France)
When you’re doing your French run, this is a must-visit. Grand Frais is famous for its market-style layout, offering incredibly fresh, often exotic fruits and vegetables, and a fantastic range of seafood and quality spices (including some that cross over into the Pan-Asian category). I was so impressed with the variety at Grand Frais, that I never looked back.
