While skiing is the undisputed king of winter activities in Geneva, there is so much more the mountains have to offer. For those of us who didn’t grow up around snow—or just want something less scary than skiing—sledging (or sledding) is a fantastic alternative. I feel like it gets unfairly slept on as just a kid’s activity, but the reality is that the region offers a huge variety of experiences. You’ll find everything from gentle hills for toddlers to massive alpine toboggan runs that provide a high-speed adrenaline fix for adults.
Finding reliable information in English can be tricky. You’ll often run into a confusing mix of terms like luge, tobogganing, and sledding (the pesky American vs British spelling – I’m still unsure which to use sometimes), with most official details available only in French. Options range from “wild” local hills to dedicated 7km alpine runs.
For this guide, we’ve done the gruntwork of categorizing the best sledging spots near Geneva into these 3 categories:

Before you head out, keep two things in mind:
- Check the Webcams/Official Sites: There’s nothing worse than driving an hour and being greeted with ice patches or mud. Lower altitude sledding spots often close due to lack of snow – double, triple check the live webcams before heading out. If you want to be extra sure, call the office of the ski resorts directly to check the snow conditions.
- Confirm Rental Options: Not all spots have shops! We’ve noted where you can hire a sledge on-site and where you need to bring your own.
🔥 Hot Tip: Almost every ski resort in the region has a small, dedicated “espace luge” for children. While we haven’t listed every single one, they are always worth scouting out if you’re already at a resort for a day of skiing.
