If your balcony is looking anything like mine — full of dead brown plant remnants of last year, — then you’re probably looking to freshen things up with new plants and flowers. I’m diving head first into the plant world, digging for the best places to buy potted plants, flowers, and gardening supplies in Geneva and across the border. Here is your 2026 plant directory for bringing some spring refresh into your life.

In the city (public transportation friendly)

  • OBI MParc La Praille (Carouge) OBI replaced the old Migros Do It + Garden in MParc. It’s a massive hardware store with a large garden center attached. You can find all the seasonal favorites and more here.
  • Jumbo (Meyrin) This is the flagship store and will have the biggest selection of plants and flowers. They also have smaller stores in Carouge and Onex, for more convenience but less options.
  • Schilliger (Plan-Les-Ouates) – A high-end, dedicated garden boutique. If you’re channeling your inner Martha Stewart, this is where you should look for fancy plants and beautiful patio furniture. Schilliger also have their flagship store in Gland, for an even larger selection.
  • LANDI Cercle des Agriculteurs (Satigny) – This is where the local farmers shop – no frills and friendly prices. In addition to a huge selection of plants, you can also find heavy duty gardening equipment, and a nice selection of local produce.
  • Pinto Fleurs (Petit-Lancy) – Pinto Fleurs is a company that actually maintains the graves at the cemeteries around Geneva, but they also have their own horticultural center where you can buy plants and flowers from them directly.
  • Fleuriot Corraterie Shop (Cité) – Fleuriot is known for their beautiful high-end floral arrangements and has many boutiques around town. If you’re looking for beautifully curated, “statement” plants in town, then you should check out their Corraterie shop.

🔥 Hot tip: Don’t forget your local grocery store! Migros, Lidl, etc will often have plants for sale during spring. Keep your eyes peeled for some good deals.

Outside the city (best with a car)

If you have a car, you can access some of the huge garden centers outside of the city and in France.

  • Jardinerie Roy & Fils (Vésenaz) – A local garden nursery that has a high-quality selection of seasonal flowers and locally acclimated plants.
  • La Flânerie (Troinex) – A high quality local producer that sells seasonal produce. Their indoor plant selection is smaller but curated for quality; everything is expertly grown on-site. You can often pick your own seasonal produce and flowers directly from their fields.
  • 🇫🇷botanic® (Gaillard, Saint-Genis-Pouilly, Ville-la-Grand) – A massive French chain that boasts a huge variety of houseplants, gardening supplies, and even an organic food market.
  • 🇫🇷Gamm Vert (Gex, Annemasse, Crozet, Saint-Julien-en-Genevois) –  I like to think of Gamm Vert as the rustic counterpart of botanic (which is more bougie). Gamm Vert is another large French chain that has hardy outdoor plants, fruit trees, seasonal flowers and more.
  • 🇫🇷Jardiland (Ornex– A massive “lifestyle” garden center. This is where you go for pretty houseplants, and fancy garden furniture.

🔥 Hot tip: Most garden centers in France are open on Sundays, making it a great weekend activity for those living in Geneva. Just remember to check customs limits for large orders!

Online Delivery

  • Zollinger Bio – For those that are looking specifically for seeds, Zollinger is the best place to look. They strictly sell seeds that are acclimated to the Swiss climate. Free shipping on orders over CHF 50.
  • GalaxusThe Amazon of Switzerland. It might be a bit strange ordering a monstera from Galaxus but the point is, it’s possible. They also have a good selection of gardening supplies and other things you may need for the garden.
  • Bloomling –  Kind of like the Amazon for all things gardening – Great for specialized gardening gear, soils, and high-end pots. They ship from Austria but have a dedicated Swiss site with free delivery over CHF 54.90. Note: They primarily sell supplies and seeds rather than live potted plants.

📦 Most of the places listed above will also do deliveries as well, if you want to support local businesses!

Markets & Special Events

Keep an eye out for special plant and seedling markets that pop-up around the city in the spring time!

  • Marché de Plantons (Parc Beaulieu) | 29 April – 23 May 2026 The greenhouses in Beaulieu park and Belle-idée will host their traditional plant markets during the spring.
  • Marché de plantons (Carouge) | 9 – 10 May 2026 A special weekend seedling event will be held at Jardin des Moraines, including food, drinks, workshops, and other fun activities.
  • Small Plant Market (Chambésy) | Thursday, 14 May 2026 @ 10:00 – 17:00 A one-day market at the Geneva Botanic Garden, where local producers sell fruit and vegetable seedlings, summer bulbs, and a variety of other things.
  • Grande Vente de Plantes – Genève | 14 – 16 May 2026 Plantes pour tous holds pop-up plant sales in Geneva throughout the year.

🌿 Troc de Plantes: If you don’t want to pay for your plants and have some to trade – check Facebook groups like “Troque ta plante” for local plant swaps where you can trade cuttings for free.

Just to end on some personal tips from someone that’s a total gardening novice. Double check the balcony environment before you go ham at the shops.

Before heading out, double check your environment – how much sun do you get during the day? Is your balcony especially windy? I used to just buy whatever looked pretty, not knowing that certain plants just wouldn’t thrive on my west-facing balcony (intense sunlight during the afternoon).

And remember: gardening is a marathon, not a sprint. If you’re a plant noob, don’t feel pressured to turn your home into a beautiful English garden in a single weekend. Start small, see what thrives, and grow from there.

Happy planting, and may your balcony make the neighbors green with envy this spring.
