Last Updated: 10 December 2025

That time of the year is almost here. It feels like we were just swimming in the lake and having BBQs at the park, but now the air officially smells like cinnamon, firewood, and vin chaud. The lights, the decorations, and the festive Christmas markets make the end of the year a magical season in Geneva.

While you’ve probably heard of (or even visited) the biggest, most touristy Christmas markets in Geneva, the secret is that many neighborhoods across the canton have their own festive markets. This is a great opportunity to skip the massive crowds, support your local community, and even mingle with your neighbors.

These smaller markets offer that authentic, low key vibe, with a more focused program. Expect to meet local food producers and artisans, neighborhood music groups, and town associations.

The best part? They’re totally free to visit! Even if you’re not planning to shop or eat, you can still soak up the festive atmosphere.

So grab your coat, put on your boots and let’s discover the 23 hidden Christmas markets all over the canton of Geneva that you may not have known about!

Scheduled for the weekend of November 14-16 in Pregny-Chambesy (just a short ride away from Nations), the market is creatively focused:with original artisan stalls, circus and musical parades, ateliers for kids, and a live-concert tent. And yes, obviously, you’ll also find an excellent selection of food trucks and beverage stalls.

2. Marché d’Hiver de l’Ecolint | La Grande Boissière Campus | 15 November

To get into the Christmas spirit, the International School of Geneva (Ecolint) is holding its traditional Marché d’Hiver on 15 November at its La Grande Boissière campus. There will be food trucks, local vendors, handmade gifts, winter drinks, and activities for all ages!

3. Noël au Quai | Quai du Mont-Blanc | 20 November – 24 December

Geneva’s main Christmas market returns to Quai du Mont Blanc, a stunning location au bord du lac that elevates even more its festive atmosphere around its enormous Christmas tree. Open from 20 November to 24 December, this market runs from noon until late, offering something for everyone.

If you’re looking for gifts, be sure to take a stroll through the artisans’ sector – the stalls change every week, so what you see on Monday is gone by the next weekend! For kids, besides the carousel, the Yourte des Enfants will hold fun activities like crafting decorations, readings, and games (the full programme will be available closer to the opening).

One of the highlights of Noël au Quai are food and drinks: You will find a diverse selection of around 30 food stands with local and international delicacies. You can grab your hot chocolate and vin chaud at the beverage stall and head for one of the lovely wooden pavilions with tables or stand by the cozy fire pits.

🔥 Hot tip: the Noël au Quai mug is always beautifully designed –take a moment to decide if you’re going to return it for your deposit , or to keep it as a souvenir!

If you’re a day person, enjoy lunch at the Chalet à fondue, where you can taste your moitié-moitié (or other winter dishes) inside a cozy interior while enjoying stunning lake views. Reservations are needed; after you book online, you can try to give them a call to score a table right by the windows. For evening people, the Christmas pub will be your place.
