Spring Refresh 2026: The Best Brocantes, Vide-Greniers, and Plant Markets in Geneva & Nearby France

Written by:

Spring cleaning is one of these rituals that transcends borders. As the days grow longer and warmer, the tradition of refreshing our homes begins: hauling skis back into the cave, dusting off balcony furniture, and prepping the garden beds. It’s the season of Marie Kondo-ing, where we part ways with what we no longer need in the hopes it becomes a new treasure for someone else. The beauty of participating in the local circular economy? It’s good for the environment and a break for our wallets (always a priority).

But a spring refresh isn’t just about letting go, it’s about bringing life back in. Alongside the vintage treasures flowing on the streets, plant markets are popping up across town, offering the perfect opportunity to refresh your balcony or finally start that vegetable garden you’ve been talking about all winter.

We’ve compiled second-hand and plant markets, big and small, that are happening in Geneva and beyond this season. Two insider tips for your hunt:
1. Cash is King: Not all local stalls accept cards or Twint, so come prepared.
2. Aim to get there earlier than later, as many of the markets wrap up after lunch, and the best stuff is gone by mid-morning!

🔍 French terminology: Brocante vs. Vide-Grenier

When browsing event posters, you’ll see several French words used – sometimes interchangeably-but here are the main distinctions:

  • Vide-Grenier: Literally “Empty Attic.” The equivalent to a garage sale, usually organized by communities or local residents. They’re great for bargains and hidden gems.
  • Brocante: Curated markets featuring professional dealers. Best for furniture, jewelry, and high-end vintage.
  • Friperie: Markets or stalls that are focused on second-hand clothing and accessories.
